There is no attached backup.xls for me to test. I tested with my baseball.xls and I can't reproduce. I am using Excel 2011 for Mac. I am assuming Excel is creating a temporary file which is being picked up by ADS.
Can you provide your backup.xls? Can you tell me what version of Excel you are using and on what OS?

I am using MS Excel 2010 for windows 7.
I have attached backup.xls file.
In my folder there are two files with name backup one is backup.xls and another is backup.xlsx.
Issue arises if I Keep backup.xlsx file open in background and connect it in ADS.

Fixed the SHOW SCHEMAS command to skip Excel files that have a prefix of "~$"

I verified in 15.0.7-2 that excel files starting with ~ do not appear in the Schema Browser as well as in QB tree node.
