db2 10.5 - instance manager does not populate unless you first connect to server then launch it

1. close ADStudio.
2. relaunch ADStudio and right click on a DB2 10.5 connection ( ensure you have not connected to it yet)
3. select DBA Tools > Instance Manager
4. A prompt appears stating:
 
"Connection Not Supported"
"The Instance Manager does not support the selected database connection"
 
5. Right click on same connection and select Storage Manager, it launches ( with  error com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.SqlSyntaxErrorException: No authorized routine named "SNAPSHOT_CONTAINER" of type "FUNCTION" having compatible arguments was found.. SQLCODE=-440, SQLSTATE=42884, DRIVER=3.61.75 )
6. expand the server connection ( to ensure you have an open connection to the server )
7. Right click on the same connection and choose Instance Manager and it will launch.
