Try: ~/Downloads/<tab> ==> a pop-up appears listing the directory contents. However, as soon as I type a letter, the pop-up disappears.

Contrast this with: /home/sachin/Downloads/<tab> ==> a pop-up appears listing the directory contents. When I type a letter, it filters the contents based on the letter entered.
