I think that all results tabs should have a toolbar. Grid Results and Message Grid Results already do. We would need to add one to the Text Results and Message Text Results.
Then, at the top right of the toolbar we can add a button with a wrench icon as a configure action. The action would open the Option Dialog to File->Options->Results-> [Grid Results] | [Text Results] | [Message Results]
Partial implementation in SVN #29935 for Grid, Pivot Grid and Message Grid Results. We'll need to discuss how to handle Text Results and Message Text results which currently don't have a toolbar.
