I think this is possible to do. Look at: http://www.cursor-distribution.de/aktuell.11.70.xC6/documentation/ids_jdbc_bookmap.pdf and search for "syntax error".
We need to use (IfmxConnection conn).getSQLStatementOffset() ). This will return us the cursor position but no the line #. We'll then have parse the submitted sql to determine the line # & the location w/ in the line # where the error occurred. We do this for Oracle: OracleExceptions.getErrorLineNumber
