There is no way to use cluster/node commands for status since there is no mapping.
For example db.serverStatus()
mongos> db.serverStatus()

MySQL has a SHOW STATUS command which returns name=value pairs. We could do something similar.

Jonathan, please document that the SHOW STATUS command will only work if you are an "admin" user. In MongoDB version 2.2, you need to be able to log in to the "admin" database. In MongoDB version 2.4, you need to have the clusterAdmin role in the "admin" database.
