Support Custom Colors for varying range of values

customer request v19.5
Priority Major
Complexity Unknown
Component Visual Analytics
Version 19.5

Use case:

I want a custom color scale based upon my data range. For each range, I want to be able to specify the color that should be used. Today, I can do the following:

IF (SUM([Profit]) < 1200000) THEN 1 ELSE
IF (SUM([Profit]) >= 1200000 AND SUM([Profit]) < 1300000) THEN 2 ELSE 3

I then drag this calculated field on to the color deck. So now we've established a custom color range. However, VA treats AGG fields always as a continuous measure. With a continuous measure field, you cannot assign specific colors to each range. In order to support this use case:

1) VA would need to support discrete measure. This is a more generic solution & also also address the issue of using the INDEX() table calculation as a discrete measure

2) If the scope of #1 is too large, we can support discrete measure just in the color deck.
