The new database administration tools for MySQL include the Instance Manager, Storage Manager, Security Manager and Session Manager.

Instance Manager

Instance Manager

The Instance Manager provides instance-wide server statistics and information for MySQL. You can quickly view and modify server parameters and server version information, including:

• Variables – View MySQL global and session variable values.
• Status – Lists system-wide global and session usage statistics.
• Charsets – Character encodings available on the server.
• Collations – Collations available on the server.
• Plugins (MySQL 5.1 and up) – Components installed on the server.

Storage Manager

Storage Manager

The purpose of the new Storage Manager is to help you visualize and maintain the amount of data contained within the database, including:

• Databases – View the total storage used in each individual database.
• Engines – View all the database engines available in this instance.
• Table Status – See a usage breakdown of individual table summaries.
• Open Tables – Displays all tables currently open.

Security Manager

The Security Manager is a new feature for MySQL, and provides a simple view of Users. Specifically, this is designed to help you:

• Create, alter, drop and view Users on a server.
• Provide a simple tree view of Users and Roles.

Session Manager

Session Manager

The Session Manager is also new for MySQL. It is designed to help you manage database sessions, including user and system locks, and quickly identify locks and avoid unnecessary overheads. 

• Sessions – Shows sessions as a tree; you can also view session details and the current statement being executed.
• Monitoring – View session details and KILL sessions.
